Shipping Supervisor – Dallas

Basic Function:   Supervise the Shipping group to provide guidance and direction, which will incorporate the overall organizational and business plan.  Responsible for ensuring that all product is shipped in the manner that is specified on the shipping documents and that all product is packaged to prevent damage.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

    • Assist in developing and implementing shipping control procedures and process improvements.
    • Oversees, coordinates, and participates in the shipping of all scheduled orders.
    • Ensures all required documentation is accurate, in order, and processed daily.
    • Coordinates with ISRs for Freight quotes and Finance hold issues.
    • Notifies Planning and ISRs if an issue arises preventing the shipment of product on time
    • Ensures that all plating work orders are shipped from the building by their start date to ensure timely delivery of material for production.
    • Responsible for reviewing the available Shipping reports to ensure material is expedited to the shipping department in a timely manner and the product is shipped per the shipping schedule.

Job Scope:

  • Managerial:  Supervises a team of shipping employees in several different roles.
  • Communication: Communicate with fellow supervisors and leaders in other departments to understand that the product is on schedule to meet the shipping schedule.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:  Associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years in Shipping management or 7 years experience in Shipping management with a manufacturing company.  Experience with ISO9001 or AS9100 requirements preferred.

Material Handler-Shipping/Packaging – DAYS

Basic Function:  Prepares and packages fiber optic cable for shipment, bag/box, and package orders per customer specifications.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

 Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Lift, move, sort, or place pallets, boxes and items from bin locations to staging areas, build areas, pallets or crates
  • Securely band and/or wrap pallets and crates in a timely and accurate fashion
  • Loads outgoing shipments on trucks daily
  • Compares data sheet to the picking ticket and accurately records information
  • Ensure inventory and labeling accuracy to be packed, palletized, and shipped
  • Compares information and counts, weights, or measures items for outgoing shipments to verify information against bill of lading or other records
  • Matches address labels to tags on cable and labels correctly; determines if the cable needs a UL label and attaches accordingly
  • Processes small packages through Fed Ex and UPS software
  • Assists in daily team projects as needed; actively participates in quarterly inventories
  • Use a wireless RF device or desktop computer
  • Ensures all shipping supplies are replenished for the next working day; notifying a lead or supervisor if needed
  • Performs daily safety checklist if using a forklift
  • Lock all bay doors (both sides), place RF devices onto charging batteries, chain/lock all pallet jacks and hand carts when closing the shift and before leaving for the day

Basic Function:  The primary responsibility of the Quality Coordinator is to provide administrative support to Quality in compliance with ISO 9001:2015. Basic Function:  Provides production scheduling and materials planning for OCC Asheville.

  • Coordinates the daily priorities between production, sales, and inventory control.

  • Responsible for maintaining safety stock levels in the MRP system.

Applications Engineer

Basic Function:  The Applications Engineer will handle customer problems and applications support from a technical and engineering perspective.

Significant Responsibilities:

  • Determine the proper cable for various installation environments required/presented by the customer.
  • Troubleshoot and conduct analysis of problems of apparently defective cables, termination, and splicing issues.
  • Determine the root cause of problems, and recommend and implement improvements.

Basic Function:  The Outside Sales Representative performs proactive sales activities for all OCC products and drives increased sales within the designated geographical territory.

Basic Function:  A working lead that provides daily operational and technical support to manufacturing floor employees.  Monitoring, auditing, troubleshooting, problem solving, correcting deviations, assisting the Process Control Engineering team in all aspects of manufacturing processes technical control.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

 

Ensures Daily Operational and Process Controls are maintained (15% of workload):

  • Equipment setups are verified with operators for accuracy.
  • Verification that the processes are running within specified tolerances.
  • Proactive detection and adjustments to quality issues
  • Process deviations are corrected or adjusted for and root cause analysis is performed using standardized methods with results presented to the BUL and appropriate Pillars and parties.
  • Process audits are conducted routinely with actions performed on deviations.

Quality Non-Conformance (QN) Triage (25% of workload):

  • Assist BUL, technicians, and operators with identification, root cause, and corrective action for QNs found in the process areas.
  • Leads and/or participates in focused improvement teams to attack losses associated with the most problematic QNs as prescribed by the area loss intelligence data.
  • Under the leadership of the Process Control Technician, aids in identifying trends, problem areas, and procedures contributing to non-conformances.

Shop Floor Operational and Technical Support (25% of workload):

  • Serves as the first responder to process, equipment, setup, materials, and material movement issues the operators need assistance or guidance with.
  • Manufacturing audits using standardized tools in the areas of production, tooling condition and setup, operator logs, 5S, Scoreboards, and safety. Results are presented to the BUL and technicians.
  • Assist technician in training activities

Equipment Operations (35% of workload):

  • Operates equipment and executes manufacturing processes as required

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education and Experience:  High school diploma. Three years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:  MT1 Certification is desirable                             

Other Minimum Qualifications:  Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to be a team member and to lead a team.  Demonstrated history of making positive contributions to an organization.

 

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:  Operate independently with supervision; involve management staff appropriately.  Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.  Maintain interpersonal relationships through appropriate communication, oral and written.  Use math and writing skills to correctly complete all documentation required for reporting. Attention to detail in completing assignments and documentation.  Prioritize workload effectively. 

 

Working Conditions:  Requires an individual with the ability to enter data into a computer. Responsibilities require an individual to be physically mobile to move around the shop floor for extended periods.

Terminate fiber optic connections, strip fiber length, polish fiber, and crimp termini.  Assemble cable connectors and fiber cables.  Read specification assembly drawings and bills of material from a work order.

Extruder Operator 1.5″ – DAYS

1.5” Extruder Operator

 

 

Basic Function:  Sets-up, runs and monitors 1 ½” extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable by performing the following job responsibilities.

 Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the file name to determine product to be manufactured, print specifications, machine adjustments, material requirements and/or special customer requirements.
  • Sets-up, runs and continuously monitors the 1 ½” extrusion line for all standard products.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to assure product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Applies print to cables using jet printers as required.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required. Completes non-conformity paperwork for all defects and problems in products.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.

Machine Operator – DAYS

Cabler/Strander Operator – DAYS 

Basic Function:

Sets up, runs, and monitors Cabler/Strander/Rework Line equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines: 

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the product code to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
  • Sets up, runs, and monitors the Planetary Strander for all standard and nonstandard products.
  • Sets up and runs a respooling machine located in the cabling area to respool sub cables, fillers, and wire.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required.
  • Runs the rework line when the workload at the Strander allows including washing cables with E Cleaner or MEK, printing cables, stripping cables, respooling cables, wire, and fillers, and using the stripping wheel to strip armor and FRP cables.
