Assembler I – AIS

Basic Function:  Terminate fiber optic connections, strip fiber length, polish fiber, and crimp termini.  Assemble cable connectors and fiber cables.  Read specification assembly drawings and bills of material from a work order.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) is required.

 

Essential Skills, Abilities, Knowledge, and Experience: Demonstrate manual dexterity, and use small hand tools, screwdrivers, and Allen wrenches.  Must have eye and hand coordination for detailed ability to recognize mechanical fit problems.  Ability to read, understand, and communicate work instructions and process procedures.  Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.  Ability to organize, complete tasks, and manage time.  Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.  Knowledge of fiber optic assembly processes, handling of fiber cable and epoxy bonding a plus.  Experience with ISO9001 or AS9100 requirements is a plus.

Working Conditions:  While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and must be reasonably ambulatory.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 lbs.  This job requires vision sufficient for completing quality work, reading comprehension, and computer use.    This work also requires hearing sufficient for normal workplace conversation and training.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.

Team Leader

Team Leader – Asheville

Basic Function:  Performs functions to coordinate and focus the team’s efforts and encourages active team member participation.  In coordination with the team, plan and prioritize activities to meet the production plan ensuring customer requirements are met.  The team leader reviews with the team and Production Supervisor any anticipated or missed schedules, quality matters, hazards, shortages, or resource availability that may impact the performance of the team or are detrimental to the company’s performance.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

 Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Coordinates training for the team members ensuring that they have the necessary training to adhere to quality and performance guidelines for the team.  Performs on-the-job training in work areas and monitors progress.
  • Review the weekly schedule with the team and create a plan to ensure the schedule is met. Reports any obstacles or inability to meet the schedule to the Supervisor, Manager, or Director of Operations.
  • Alert team members to any special conditions or requirements associated with meeting customer’s commitments.
  • Coordinates with the stockroom for a schedule of materials that must be pulled to meet production schedules. Recognizes any shortages before starting an order and addresses them with the Supervisor.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Ensures the flow in the cell is moved in a timely manner in order to maintain shipping schedules.
  • Responsible for the issue of each order, first piece inspection, and in-process checks and maintaining the necessary paperwork for the team.
  • Encourage team discussions for problem concerns, resolutions, and effectiveness of operations. Implement viable recommendations.
  • May represent the team at inter-departmental meetings.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:  High School Diploma or GED required.  Associate Degree in Manufacturing is desirable.  1-year minimum experience as a leader in a manufacturing environment is preferred.  Experience in cable or connectivity assembly industry preferred.

 

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:  General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook with minimal support.  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.  Able to read assembly drawings.  Must possess initiative.  Able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.  Understand, follow, and administer policies, especially those related to quality and compliance.  Able to interact with sales, manufacturing, and inventory control teams.  Able to organize, prioritize, and complete tasks and manage time.  Knowledge of ISO9001 or AS9100 requirements is a plus.

 

Working Conditions:  While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.  This job requires sight for significant reading and computer use.  Specific vision abilities required for this job include color vision.  This work also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for communicating with all levels of employees.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions.

Machine Operator – NIGHTS

Extruder Operator 1 ¼” NIGHTS

Basic Function: Sets up, runs, and monitors 1 ¼” extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable by performing the following job responsibilities.

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the file name to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
  • Sets up, runs, and continuously monitors the 1 ¼” extrusion line for all products.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Accurately completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required. Completes non-conformity paperwork for all defects and problems in products.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.
