On production and drilling sites, operators and contractors are encountering increased automation, allowing for real time decision making, and reduced drilling and operational costs. Optical Cable Corporation works with engineers from drilling and production companies to help design end-to-end fiber solutions for these networks. OCC will be releasing its ATEX/IECEx rated COTS-M83526™ and EZ-MATE receptacles to provide fiber optic connectivity within the hazardous locations of Zones 1 and 21.

OCC’s ATEX Rate Connectors (EXP) meet safety requirements for ATEX (Explosive Atmospheres) Zone 1 (Gas) and Zone 21 (Dust). These requirements are based on directives from the European Union and IECEx (International Electrotechnical Commission Explosive) certification standards.

  • These products have unique characteristics that include three different materials:
    • Black Anodized - Ideal for onshore
    • Brass and/or Stainless Steel - Better for offshore and resistant to oil and salt spray
  • The COTS and EZ-MATE version will have two shell sizes and will allow up to 12 fiber connections and 24 fiber connections, respectively.
  • Each receptacle can be mounted to ATEX/IECEx rated encolsures, allowing for multiple easy connect and disconnect deployments, reducing tear down time.
  • OCC Manufacturers the cable and connectors for an end-to-end solution.
