Cable Specialist

Basic Function:  Responsible for spooling, re-spooling, cutting and issuing fiber optic and copper cables according to manufacturing drawings and customer and industry standard specifications.  Interpret assembly drawings and bills of material from a work order.


Significant Responsibilities:


Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Spool fiber optic cable onto reels using re-spooling machinery and cut cable to required lengths.
  • Issue lots to work orders.
  • Recognize cosmetic and visual functional discrepancies on optical cable.
  • Assist in other areas of production, including inventory, component line and fiber line.
  • Participate in on the job training and perform other job duties as assigned.
  • Observe and follow all safety precautions.

Minimum Qualifications Required

High school diploma or GED (General Education Degree) is required.


Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:  Must demonstrate manual dexterity; use small hand tools, screwdrivers and hex wrenches.  Must have eye and hand coordination for detailed ability to recognize mechanical fit problems.  Must be able to interpret assembly drawings and bills of material from a work order.  Must possess the ability to read, understand and communicate work instructions and process procedures.  Must be able to work alone and in a team environment with minimal supervision.  Must have the ability to organize, complete tasks and manage time.  Must pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.  Knowledge of fiber optic assembly processes, handling of fiber cable and epoxy bonding a plus.  Experience with ISO9001 or AS9100 requirements a plus.


Working Conditions:  While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and must be reasonably ambulatory.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 lbs.  This job requires vision sufficient for completing quality work, reading comprehension and computer use.    This work also requires hearing sufficient for normal workplace conversation and training.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions.  Follows all safety policies and procedures.
