    1970s
    NOBEL BEGINNINGS

    OCC’s founding engineers worked with “The Father of Fiber Optics,” Charles Kao, who later accepted the Nobel Prize in Physics. The innovation in fiber optics was off and running.

    REDEFINING RELIABILITY

    Our first customers, NASA and the U.S. Armed Forces, inspired us to develop the most rugged, reliable fiber cable for harsh environments, such as the Core-Locked™ outer cable jacket design, the UL listed Indoor/Outdoor cable, and the tight-buffered cable.

    HIGH PERFORMANCE COPPER

    The acquisition of SMP in Asheville NC enabled OCC to innovate the patented Low Crosstalk Electrical Connector System and the Category 5 patent, thus allowing for the performance of Gigabit Ethernet, as well as telephonic systems and other data transmissions around the world.

    CONNECTORS TO COUNT ON

    The acquisition of AOS in Dallas ushered in a new era of OCC innovation. These included the design and development of specialty fiber optic connectors such as the MARS reel and the MARS ALRS for military and harsh environment applications.
