Basic Function:  Supervises employees, processes, quality, and safety in the manufacturing process.  Check material shortages, machine or equipment defects and causes for delays.  Trains production employees. Maintains discipline, morale and personnel relations and address primary complaints.

Basic Function:  Provides production scheduling and materials planning for OCC Asheville.

Inventory Control Specialist

Basic Function:  Receives and issues finished materials.  Prints and pulls shipping documents.  Enters receivers and material movement in computer system.  Investigates inventory discrepancies.

  • Ensure all packages and stock are labeled correctly.
  • Responsible for preparing orders for shipment according to the shipping documents.

  • Cross-train in additional inventory control, shipping and receiving positions in order to successfully perform those duties on an interim basis and train others.
  • Utilizes and follows quality policy and operating procedures to ensure the quality and consistency of the job is being performed.

Engineering Tech – Fiber Optic

Basic Function:  Performs environmental and mechanical testing of optical cables, cable assemblies, and components.  Provides test, inspection and analytical support to Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Quality Assurance departments.

  • Conduct environmental and mechanical tests on cables and assemblies in accordance with industry, corporate, and military standards and procedures.
  • Understand and apply industrial, corporate, and military standards and procedures to test efforts.
  • Use computers and peripherals to obtain, organize and correctly interpret significant amounts of data.
  • Produce computer based test reports in logical and meaningful formats to effectively convey findings and results to other individuals and departments.
  • Troubleshoot test setups and catastrophic failures for root causes (able to locate bad splices, suspect optical interfaces, bad alignment sleeves, misconfigured equipment, computer malfunctions, etc.)
  • Perform inspections, testing and analysis in support of customer complaints, return material authorizations, and root cause analysis.
  • Support Production efforts by performing required inspections, analysis, tests, and cable annealing processes (high temperature soaks).

Job Scope:

  • Performs tests as directed by the Test Lab Supervisor and generates associated reports.
  • Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written skills.  Such skills will be essential in discussing and clarifying test requirements and in generating lab reports
  • Test programs, cable samples, and associated results are OCC and/or customer proprietary and, as a result, must be handled accordingly.
  • Results of tests and associated reports are used by other departments and personnel to better improve production efforts, support sales and marketing efforts, or to qualify products for shipment.
  • Test efforts are to be performed in accordance with industry, corporate, or military requirements as defined in applicable standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Minimal travel to outside test facilities and other OCC divisions may be required in support of programs and projects.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

 

Education:   Associates degree in engineering or an associated technical discipline, and/or 1-3 years of hands-on experience in electro-optics, fiber optics, instrumentation and measurements, or an associated field.               

 

Experience:  1-3 years of hands-on experience in electro-optics, fiber optics, instrumentation and measurements, or an associated field.

 

Licensure, Certification and/or Registration:  None required.  Although certification in fiber optics handling (or equivalent) could be beneficial.

                               

Other Minimum Qualifications:  Computer proficiency (especially in Word and Excel).  Detail oriented.  Able to read, comprehend and perform tests according to standards and procedures.

Customer Service Rep

Basic Function:  Responsible for the administration and material processing of customer returns with activities that contribute to complaint resolution. The Customer Service Representative will provide superior service to OCC Sales and Finance. The position will also provide Quality support to Production ensuring compliance with ISO 9001. The Customer Service Representative will also participate in efforts to prevent, detect, report, correct or cause to be corrected the production of non-conforming material or product through routine conduct of audits/inspection at all stages of production.

  • Manages MRB cage and processes all transactions associated with customer returns.
  • Organize returns and keep detailed records.
  • Keep track of daily emails on new RMAs and status of existing RMAs.
  • Maintain RMA Log.
  • Data entry in a timely fashion.
  • Verifies and enters all data from orders into computer. Determines total cost for customer.
  • Maintain daily inventory of MRB.
  • Interacts with Sales to collectively process RMAs.
  • Routine follow up to ensure RMAs meet time limitations.
  • Submits weekly order reports to the department Manager.
  • Work with warehouse that is receiving the returns to help them know what product is being received, quantities and part numbers.
  • Follow-up on Shipping Claims.
  • Other tasks as needed.

BASIC FUNCTION:  Responsible for supplier sourcing, supplier negotiations and related activities involving procurement of goods and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, custom fabricated parts, commercial-off-the-shelf parts, supplies, and outsourced fabrication services for establishment consistent with quality standards.

 

SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understands business conditions and current/changing market conditions in order to approach vendors who will best fit the need and negotiate appropriately.
  • Develops and maintains vendor relationships in order to obtain crucial product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule; negotiate terms.
  • Interprets Purchase Requisitions to produce Purchase Orders that best meet the requirements of the requisition.
  • Solicits quotes from appropriate vendors and makes purchase decisions or recommendations within management guidelines
  • Responsible for organizing manual and/or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, and product quality or performance
  • Conducts follow-up with vendors to insure timely deliveries per required schedule.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to facilitate the determination of appropriate corrective action.

Job Scope:

  • Management Responsibility – No direct reports.
  • Communication – Must relate to all departments and levels of management both internal and external to be able to perform daily requirements.

  • Financial – Understanding the effect of any decision for pricing of an order and how it affects OCC now and in the future.
  • Judgment – Able to make calls when necessary to ensure parts are made to specification and involving other departments when it is not feasible.
  • Travel – May need to travel locally using own transportation to vendor locations to make sure they have the capacity, tooling, skill, and quality standard to build our product. Also delivering and picking-up product.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

 

Education and Experience:  Associate degree in a technical field preferred; requires a HS diploma with 6 years demonstrated industry experience requiring product understanding.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:

Maintenance Coordinator

Basic Function: Manages the maintenance department and supervises care and upkeep of the facility.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with Finance to ensure assets are properly accounted for.
  • Uses Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Monitors CMMS for upcoming preventive maintenance task, works with the technicians to get them scheduled.
  • Ensures shop stores are at adequate levels to confirm equipment is at desired OEE’s.
  • Performs parts inventory when scheduled.
  • Creates purchase orders and places orders for all maintenance parts needed.
  • Maintenance parts inventory management. Maintains appropriate spare parts in a cost efficient manner while minimizing machine downtime.
  • Maintains metrics related to asset care and reliability.
  • Works closely with Business Unit Leader (Maintenance) daily
  • Works with and coordinates with outside contractors to schedule repairs.
  • Provides support and backup to maintenance technicians with task on production floor when needed.
  • Maintains appropriate spare parts in a cost-efficient manner while minimizing machine downtime.

Cabler Operator – Weekend Shift

Basic Function:  Sets-up, runs, and monitors 36” up to 64”cabling equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the product code to determine product to be manufactured, machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Sets-up, runs and monitors the cabling lines for all standard products.
  • Sets-up and runs respooling machine located in the cabling area to respool fillers.
  • Observes, measures and inspects products at various stages of the production process to assure product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.
