Mechanical Design Engineer

Basic Function:

Responsible for design, development and documentation of fiber optic connectors, assemblies and accessories to meet customer specified requirements. Develop and manage the production process to manufacture the designed product. Responsible for new product designs and existing product maintenance for AIS by working from customer drawings, company drawings, vendor drawings or specifications.  Integrate physical design requirements and manufacturing aspects to produce designs that meet all applicable requirements for the form, fit and function.

  • Conforms to cost and time considerations estimated for the product.
  • Calculate GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)parameters
  • Prepare drawings, Work Instructions and additional technical documents as required within the OCC quality assurance policy and procedure.
  • Assist manufacturing through designing tooling, test, and assembly fixtures as required.
  • Perform physical testing of products to validate design requirements
  • Assist in ECO/ECN processing
  • Support product, change management and customer inquiries during product life cycle.
  • Identify and select materials for production and create bills of materials (BOM).
  • Maintains documentation for ISO requirements.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 4+ years of experience or Masters and 2+ years of experience.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in CAD (3D modelling) and a strong understanding of manufacturing principles, materials and processes
  • Prior experience in Fiber Optic Connector Design preferred
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in using all MS-Office products
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with other engineers and production staff
  • Critical thinking and creativity to solve design and production challenges.
  • Analyze test results to improve designs
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage projects and schedules related to design and manufacturing
  • Use precision measurement tools and devices such as Optical Light Source, Power Meters, Network Analyzers, Time Domain Reflectometers.
  • Experience using an ERP system such as Syspro preferred.

Basic Function:

Final inspection of finished products in accordance with policies, procedures, work instructions, customer requirements, military/government and industry standards.

Basic Function: 

Conduct tests, collect data, and maintain product performance test databases. Assist in product development and production testing.

Basic Function:  This position serves as the highest level team member for reviewing, strategically responding to and designating necessary work groups to manage and execute contract administration for maximum sales.  This includes ensuring the successful delivery of technical performance, adherence to schedule and budgetary constraints, and strict compliance with all applicable internal policies and external regulatory requirements and directives.

  • Manages the analysis, review, and oversight of government and private contracts; collaborates with and provides guidance to the sales team responsible for this business; ensures leading edge and up to date knowledge of the government contracting climate;
  • Uses FARS and DFARS knowledge to serve as the primary lead ensuring contract requirements are understood and met by the team involved in managing customer relationships; directs others in their work related to the contract and/or corporate program.

  • Understand the commonalities amongst contracts and supplier certifications to collect and manage an internal informational “catalog” for OCC
  • Maintains calendars to ensure renewal certifications are proactively completed

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Experience:  This role requires a minimum of 4-6 years of experience on the following subject matters:

  • FARS and DFARS
  • CMMC and NIST-800 (in order to provide support to the IT team member managing CMMC compliance)
  • Contracts review, analysis and oversight (government and private)
  • Non-Disclosure Agreements

Licensure, Certification and/or Registration:  Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM) or other applicable certification preferred                              

Other Minimum Qualifications:  This role requires a high level of proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as expert level proficiency with MS Project.

Basic FunctionSets up, runs, and monitors 36” up to 64” cabling equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable.

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the product code to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
  • Sets up, runs, and monitors the cabling lines for all standard products.
  • Sets up and runs a respooling machine located in the cabling area to respool fillers.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.

    • Provide direct technical support to production by qualifying test adapters/fixtures and components per test requirements; develop adjustment methods based on performance category and lot numbers.
    • Support the transition of products from concept and prototyping into full-scale production, ensuring manufacturing readiness and process stability.
    • Writes software to automate the measurement processes.
    • Keeps current knowledge on relevant standards that govern OCC products.
    • Maintains data and reports generated from testing.
    • Works closely with other departments within OCC, such as marketing or sales, to supply information on specific products as needed.
    • Develops and maintains internal relevant testing procedures, equipment and processes.
    • Creates drawings, CAD models, printed circuit board layouts.
    • Supports entry of product from concept and prototyping into production.
    • Assemble prototypes and sample lots of products for performance testing
    • Evaluate test results on products. Determine pass-fail conditions for cable and connector products by performance category.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical or related Engineering or Associates Degree in Engineering or related field.    Equivalent experience in the Test and Measurement field is also acceptable.                             

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:  Excellent knowledge of vector network analysers or other complex laboratory equipment.  An understanding of EMI and/or wave propagation theory is desirable.   Experience or education in programming.  Proficiency in Matlab is also desirable. Excellent computer skills required with familiarity and skill in software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel and HTML.  Experience designing in an engineering environment and with PC based schematic capture and development software.    Ability to plan, layout, and execute complex work programs, functions and operations.  Ability to understand and implement quality procedures.  Excellent math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all paperwork.  Excellent oral and written communication skills required with the demonstrated ability to express oneself clearly and concisely.  Ability to work in a team environment and with minimal supervision.  Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately, and to recognize, record, and help resolve problems.  Able to organize, complete tasks and manage time.

  • Coordinates training for the team members ensuring that they have the necessary training to adhere to quality and performance guidelines for the team.  Performs on-the-job training in work areas and monitors progress.

  • Encourage team discussions for problem concerns, resolutions, and effectiveness of operations. Implement viable recommendations.
  • May represent the team at inter-departmental meetings.

Material Handler – Shipping/Packaging – DAYS

Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

 

Basic Function:  Prepares and packages fiber optic cable for shipment, bag/box and package orders per customer specifications.

Significant Responsibilities:

 Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Lift, move, sort or place pallets, boxes and items from bin locations to staging areas, build areas, pallets or crates
  • Securely band and/or wrap pallets and crates in timely and accurate fashion
  • Loads outgoing shipments on trucks daily
  • Compares data sheet to the picking ticket and accurately records information
  • Ensure inventory and labeling accuracy to be packed, palletized and shipped
  • Compares information and counts , weights or measures items for outgoing shipments to verify information against bill of lading or other records
  • Matches address labels to tags on cable and labels correctly; determines if the cable needs a UL label and attaches accordingly
  • Processes small packages through Fed Ex and UPS software
  • Assists in daily team projects as needed; actively participates in quarterly inventories
  • Use wireless RF device or desktop computer
