Engineering Technician – Fiber Optic

Basic FunctionPerforms environmental and mechanical testing of optical cables, cable assemblies, and components.  Provides test, inspection, and analytical support to Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Quality Assurance departments. 

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental and mechanical tests on cables and assemblies in accordance with industry, corporate, and military standards and procedures.
  • Understand and apply industrial, corporate, and military standards and procedures to test efforts.
  • Use computers and peripherals to obtain, organize, and correctly interpret significant amounts of data.
  • Produce computer-based test reports in logical and meaningful formats to effectively convey findings and results to other individuals and departments.
  • Troubleshoot test setups and catastrophic failures for root causes (able to locate bad splices, suspect optical interfaces, bad alignment sleeves, misconfigured equipment, computer malfunctions, etc.)
  • Perform inspections, testing, and analysis in support of customer complaints, return material authorizations, and root cause analysis.
  • Support Production efforts by performing required inspections, analysis, tests, and cable annealing processes (high-temperature soaks).

Job Scope:

  • Performs tests as directed by the Test Lab Supervisor and generates associated reports.
  • Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written skills.  Such skills will be essential in discussing and clarifying test requirements and in generating lab reports
  • Test programs, cable samples, and associated results are OCC and/or customer-proprietary and, as a result, must be handled accordingly.
  • Results of tests and associated reports are used by other departments and personnel to better improve production efforts, support sales and marketing efforts, or qualify products for shipment.
  • Test efforts are to be performed in accordance with industry, corporate, or military requirements as defined in applicable standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Minimal travel to outside test facilities and other OCC divisions may be required in support of programs and projects.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education: Associate degree in engineering or an associated technical discipline, and/or 1-3 years of hands-on experience in electro-optics, fiber optics, instrumentation and measurements, or an associated field.               

Experience:  1-3 years of hands-on experience in electro-optics, fiber optics, instrumentation, and measurements, or an associated field.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:  None required.  Although certification in fiber optics handling (or equivalent) could be beneficial.                             

Other Minimum Qualifications:  Computer proficiency (especially in Word and Excel).  Detail oriented.  Able to read, comprehend, and perform tests according to standards and procedures.

Working Conditions:  Employee is regularly required to perform tasks in a standing and a sitting position.  Must be reasonably ambulatory.  Cable and fiber preparation requires manual dexterity using hands and fingers to handle, feel, and manipulate optical fibers and associated inspection equipment including hand-held and desktop microscopes.   This job requires sight sufficient for significant reading and computer usage.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.  This work also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for communication with coworkers.

Interlocking Armor Operator – WEEKEND

Basic Function:   Operates the large extruders, ILA, filler and rework lines on an as needed basis to eliminate machine downtime and increase efficiency. 

Significant Responsibilities:

 Performs specific job responsibilities:

    • Review set up sheets and product codes to determine product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, setup and material requirements; monitor product runs closely by measuring and inspecting against quality standards.
    • Set up and run product on ILA, large extruders (2 and 3 inch), strander, filler and rework lines as workload and staffing levels necessitate.
    • Print to cables accurately using jet and mechanical printers.
    • Fill, empty and monitor material dryers.
    • Operate the rework line per production requirements for reworks and remakes; washing, reprinting, stripping jackets and armor, respooling cables and other rework tasks.
    • Correctly completes all documentation specific to the job functions.

Basic Function:  Administrative and clerical functions to support critical sales programs and processes – ensuring accurate and timely execution. 

Significant Responsibilities:

  • Job Maintenance Process – Ensure all data entry is accurate and consistent between a Customer P.O. and the OCC quote and order acknowledgments.
    • Visual comparison to identify inaccuracies and data errors
    • Note errors and confirm corrections
    • Confirm export compliance requirements via the established process to ensure steps to compliance are not missed.
  • MDIS Administration – Oversee the administration and execution of all processes for customer participation in this Sales Program
    • Accept, process, and track customer applications and provide certificates.
    • Oversee customer renewal timelines to ensure that the renewal process is completed by the deadline.
    • Complete and track additional paperwork related to the program, including associated extended warranties.
  • Front Desk Administrative Assistant – Primary Backup
    • Regularly scheduled to provide front desk coverage for breaks, meetings, special projects/events, PTO and/or unexpected coverage needs;
    • Understand the phone system and manage calls quickly, correctly and professionally (as a first point of contact for customers);
    • Oversee visitors and manage the security of the front entrance in accordance with formal processes (OCC’s compliance with NIST 800-171) and in a manner that balances building security with a welcoming/professional front desk (includes registering visitors, providing and tracking visitor badge, checking identification and obtaining signed NDA’s as needed).
  • Handles administrative support functions as assigned and as needed
    • OCC’s Return Material Authorization (RMA) and Customer Complaint (CC) processes.
      • Manage associated paperwork so as not to hold up the resolution process.
      • Gather necessary data to complete associate forms for the resolution team
    • Ship and Debit Programs

Cabler/Strander Operator

Basic Function: Sets up, runs, and monitors Cabler/Strander/Rework Line equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable.

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities following safety procedures and guidelines:

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the product code to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
  • Sets up, runs, and monitors the Planetary Strander for all standard and nonstandard products.
  • Sets up and runs a respooling machine located in the cabling area to respool sub cables, fillers, and wire.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required.
  • Runs the rework line when the workload at the Strander allows including washing cables with E Cleaner or MEK, printing cables, stripping cables, respooling cables, wire, and fillers, and using the stripping wheel to strip armor and FRP cables.

Basic Function:  Prepares and packages fiber optic cable for shipment, bag/box and package orders per customer specifications.

  • Lift, move, sort or place pallets, boxes and items from bin locations to staging areas, build areas, pallets or crates
  • Securely band and/or wrap pallets and crates in timely and accurate fashion
  • Loads outgoing shipments on trucks daily
  • Compares data sheet to the picking ticket and accurately records information
  • Ensure inventory and labeling accuracy to be packed, palletized and shipped
  • Compares information and counts , weights or measures items for outgoing shipments to verify information against bill of lading or other records
  • Matches address labels to tags on cable and labels correctly; determines if the cable needs a UL label and attaches accordingly
  • Processes small packages through Fed Ex and UPS software

Basic Function:  General accounting transactions including support as required to complete period end financial statements and assist with tax compliance matters.

Significant Responsibilities:

    • Prepares assigned tax returns, tax-related schedules and reports in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

What You Will Do

  • Provide day-to-day support for the SYSPRO ERP system and related business applications.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience).
  • Two to four years of experience supporting ERP systems, enterprise business applications, manufacturing systems, or other complex business software.
  • Experience troubleshooting software, data, and business process issues.
  • Experience working directly with business users to gather requirements and resolve system challenges.
  • Experience creating reports, analyzing data, and documenting business processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting ERP platforms such as SYSPRO, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Epicor, or Infor.

  • Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools.

Director, Corporate Procurement #2156

Corporate Procurement Director

Basic Function: 

Responsible for leading OCC’s corporate procurement and strategic sourcing functions across all company locations. Develops and executes sourcing strategies that strengthen supplier partnerships, reduce supply chain risk and improve cost competitiveness. Leads procurement personnel while collaborating with Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management and Finance to ensure suppliers support current production needs, new product introductions and long-term business growth.

Significant Responsibilities:

Strategic Procurement and Supplier Management

  • Develop and execute corporate sourcing strategies.
  • Manage end-to-end procurement processes for assigned categories (e.g., IT, facilities, raw materials, MRO, services).
  • Lead supplier selection and qualification activities.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers to ensure high quality, timely delivery, and competitive pricing. Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to maximize value.
  • Conduct supplier business reviews.
  • Develop alternate sourcing strategies.
  • Draft, review, and manage purchase orders, contracts, and service agreements.
  • Work with internal departments to forecast demand and align procurement strategy with business goals.

  • Support prototype and pilot production.

  • Managerial:  Provides strategic and operational leadership for procurement personnel across multiple manufacturing locations.  Responsible for developing procurement strategy, departmental budgets, supplier relationships, compliance programs, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Communication:  Communicates with fellow managers and leaders in other departments to understand procurement needs and expectations across all three locations.
  • Confidentiality:  High level of confidentiality required regarding corporate initiatives, customer matters and employee issues.
  • Financial:  Operate and manage a fiscally responsible team and maintain reasonable expenses; must evaluate the potential returns on investment before committing to purchases.  Respond to the Finance team’s request for information in a timely and accurate manner.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance or related field.

Experience:  Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive procurement, sourcing, supply chain or strategic purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment, including at least 3-5 years of leadership experience managing procurement personnel.  Knowledge and understanding of fiber optic cable and connectivity industry experience preferred.

Technical:  Proficient with procurement software (e.g. Syspro)

Certifications:  Professional certification(s) (e.g. CPM, CPSM, CIPS) desired.
