Job Overview

We are looking for a Maintenance Technician to support our production team by setting up, maintaining, and repairing industrial machinery. This hands-on position is essential to keeping our equipment running safely and efficiently. You will play a key role in ensuring minimal downtime and consistent product quality.


Key Responsibilities

Maintain and Repair Equipment

  • Set up and assemble new machinery according to specifications.

  • Observe machines for visual or audio signs of malfunction and diagnose problems quickly.

  • Study blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine the best repair approach.

  • Dismantle and reassemble machines to replace or repair defective parts.

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and document all work completed.

  • Lubricate and maintain machine tools and equipment regularly.

  • Test machines after repair to confirm proper operation.

Ensure Quality and Safety

  • Follow all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements.

  • Maintain compliance with OCC’s quality standards and operational procedures.

  • Keep accurate records of parts used, repairs made, and preventive maintenance completed.

  • Conduct all activities safely and efficiently to prevent downtime or equipment damage.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • One to three years of related experience preferred.

  • MT1 or industrial maintenance certification is desirable.

  • Military or technical training may substitute for field experience.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate, repair, and maintain machinery.

  • Skilled in reading and following detailed instructions, blueprints, and drawings.

  • Working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

  • Machining, fabrication, and drafting experience preferred.

  • Accurate math and handwriting skills for completing documentation.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability.

  • Capable of operating a forklift and aerial work platform.

  • Works well independently and as part of a team.


Working Conditions

  • Regularly stand and move throughout the work area.

  • Lift or move up to 50 lbs frequently.

  • Vision required for reading, computer work, and color recognition.

  • Hearing required for communication and alarm awareness.

  • Work environment includes moderate noise, moving parts, and occasional fumes or airborne particles.

    • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the file name to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
    • Sets up, runs, and continuously monitors the 1 ¼” extrusion line for all products.
    • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
    • Accurately completes all documentation specific to this job function.
    • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
    • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required. Completes non-conformity paperwork for all defects and problems in products.

Basic Function: Sets up, runs, and monitors Cabler/Strander/Rework Line equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable.

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities following safety procedures and guidelines:

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the product code to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
  • Sets up, runs, and monitors the Planetary Strander for all standard and nonstandard products.
  • Sets up and runs a respooling machine located in the cabling area to respool sub cables, fillers, and wire.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required.
  • Runs the rework line when the workload at the Strander allows including washing cables with E Cleaner or MEK, printing cables, stripping cables, respooling cables, wire, and fillers, and using the stripping wheel to strip armor and FRP cables.

Respooler Operator II – In Process – NIGHTS

Monday – Thursday 6 PM – 6 AM

 

Basic Function:  Supports the production of fiber optic cable.

Performs specific job responsibilities: 

  • Selects cable to be respooled/striped/cut/printed based on priorities set by production.
  • Sets up and respools all of the standard cable products produced by this company.
  • Prints finished cables and washes off print as required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six months related experience and/or training preferred.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:  Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a machine in a production environment.  Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly.  Ability to read and follow basic instructions and to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation.  Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.  Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.

Basic Function:   Contributes to increased sales by proactively servicing customer and prospects’ needs to maximize sales, service satisfaction, and loyalty; pursues prospective leads and supports the outside sales force to ensure best-in-class service. 

 

Significant Responsibilities:

  • Proactively find new sales opportunities and manage current opportunities in a given region.
  • Process orders, provide quotes, and conduct regular follow-ups on orders in a proactive, accurate, and efficient manner.
  • Increase quote close ratio by effectively following up on outstanding quotes.
  • Conduct needs analysis, and identify applications and appropriate solutions per project. Respond to customer inquiries about product capabilities and provide features and benefits that differentiate OCC from the competition.
  • Work in a team environment; coordinate efforts with outside sales team, business development, and marketing to ensure projects are awarded to OCC; regularly and consistently follow up with all parties involved to ensure sales are closed and service provided.
  • Appropriately handle customer concerns and issues by servicing the customer directly or by involving the proper channels for a satisfactory resolution.
  • Provide timely price quotations for existing and new customers.
  • Provide the sales team (outbound inside sales, outside sales force, and sales engineers) with necessary information for effective customer proposals.
  • Respond timely to customer inquiries regarding order/shipping status.

  • Confidentiality: Confidentiality must be maintained as it relates to customer service and customer accounts
  • Financial Responsibility: Will construct and provide quotations that impact profitability. Accuracy is critical.
  • Judgment: Expected to use independent judgment and to seek assistance as directed; errors could directly impact the customer relationship and revenue
  • Compliance: Responsible for complying with internal pricing guides and all applicable laws and regulations, including ISO and SOX
  • Travel:  Minimal or infrequent travel to customer sites or events in assigned region

 

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education: Associates degree is preferred combined with an applicable field or equivalent and appropriate sales and customer service experience       

Experience:  1-2 years of experience (Bachelor’s degree desirable and may substitute for 2 years of experience)

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft software packages such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Use CRM (customer relationship management) tools effectively and proactively

Working Conditions:  This is a partially sedentary job that requires sight sufficient for computer usage and hearing sufficient for extensive, direct, and/or telephone contact with customers, management, and employees.  Responsibilities require an individual to be physically mobile to move around the facility.  The nature of this position and the personal interactions involved require that an individual possess significant and persuasive interactive communication skills.  40+ hour on-site work week with on-call availability required. Sitting for extended periods, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse, and to handle other computer components, occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings, lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects such as computers and peripherals.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions.
